Default Pics of Casio E-3000 Pocket PC

http://akiba.sorobangeeks.com/news_2111.html

According to Daimaou, the Casio E-3000 Pocket PC has been released in Japan today. He has plenty of pictures with some size comparisons to the iPAQ 3900 series. In true Casio tradition, the IR port is on the side of the device. I never did get that. :?

Is it me, or is the screen size markedly smaller than the Ipaq??

I never 'got' the IR location either... Having had a Nokia with it on the left side (hence upside down beside each other) it was only marginally improved with the phones' IR at the top(Resulting in a 90 degree orientation to each other! *sigh*)

Yes. It's probably 3.5", although it looks smaller in the picture. BTW, the screen appears to be transflective, but the surface seems more reflecting of light and shadows than the iPaqs, at least from that picture.

Well I got a screen protection sheet on my Ipaq that why you got such difference between them. And the casio screen is a transflective screen as well. Also the screen is not a 3.8 on the casio, I was so surprised, but it is still a 3.5

And well the overall PDA look so cheap, the plastic quality is a cheap as the 200.

On thing that I was quite surprise with, it that PDA is so light !

I think the manufacturers should really move from 3,5" to 3,8". It might not sound much, but there is simply a huge difference when actually using the device.

I think they do this because they never have enough room on the top of the device for it. I'm not a fan of the IR on the side either.

The screen size is even more dramatic compared to my Toshiba e550g, 4 inch screen

I was not sure the diff from 3.8 to 4 would make much difference but to me it does.

From what I see this Casio is a little too little...

I have had a couple Casios and loved them but this unit does not look very compelling.

My Toshiba e740 has the IR port on the left side while my Dell Latitude has it on the right side. Needless to say, it works out perfect for me since I use IR between my own devices about 100 times more often than between my PPC and someone else's device.

jizmo,

The e550g is an exclusive CompUSA item. I paid $599 for it but it may be cheaper now. It includes both CF and SD and is quite thin. I like it!

Some people aren't crazy about the screen though because it is a reflective rather than transflective screen. I don't have any problem with that though.

One thing you would need to do though is check the screen to make sure the contrast is acceptable. There is no contrast control, only brightness and if you are mainly drawing that might be a concern.
