Default Philips Back In Pocket PC Market With X800 and X-Connect

http://www.gsmarena.com/philips_x80...h-news-502.php#

Philips was one of the first in the Windows Mobile market, then called Windows CE, Some of you will remember, or may have even owned, the Philips Velo or Philips Nino. Unfortunately, Philips jumped ship when the name change to Pocket PC happened and has ben absent ever since. Now they are making their way back with two new devices, the X800 and X-Connect.

Philips X-800

Specs for the X-800 include:
  • tri-band GSM/GPRS (so not likely destined for the US market. )
  • 2.9" display with 240x400 resolution
  • Touch interface
  • 2megapixel Camera
Pricing and release date are not known. They also have a device called the X-Connect which has few details, other than a 3 inch screen and it will lack WiFi - which is an odd thing to lack in a device with the word "connect" in its name.

Just like the Nino, this device has a notable paucity of buttons.

Maybe it is just because I'm old ... but when I see 'Pocket PC market', I expected to find a PDA, not a WinMobile phone.

I can't have camera devices at work, and don't need another cell. I could always use a new PDA, though

Default Strange...

I liked my Nino! But I wouldn't trade my i-mate 6150 for either of these. What is Phillips thinking?!?!? A weird screen resolution and nothing exciting that I can see. A "connect" model with no wifi!??!?!? I hope they do umts/hsdpa not just gsm/gprs/edge (I hope it at least does edge).

Interesting interface at first glance but pretty underwhelming specs for a relaunch IMHO.

I miss my Nino.
This device doesn't just doesn't do much for me (not exciting).

I wish it hadn't caught fire. Its amazing how much of Windows CE 2 is still in WM 6.1.

Sorry to burst the bubble, but CNET Asia has clarified that X-Connect is actually the codename for X800. And since X800 doesn't looks like it's running on Windows Mobile, I suppose there isn't any "Windows Mobile X-Connect".
