I wonder if products like NYDITOT Virtual Display can make it happen for 240x240 users to get a 240x320 screen. Sure, it'll be squished, but it's better than not having a working app at all.
As for my thoughts, I held these iPAQs in my hand, and I have to say, I'm just not comfortable with the device as a phone. Blackberries and Treos have a better form-factor, IMHO.
Lastly, I'm leery about any product with the HP logo on it. Given their attitude on previous devices, just like the 6500 series that will likely never get a Windows Mobile 5 upgrade, I'd hate to see a bunch of disgruntled HP mobile devicowners in the future.

It is, comptibility-wise. For example, I haven't found a single remote controller application to be compatible with the screen (tested them all some 2 months ago - see this. Dunno whether the new Novii 3.2 - I still havent tested it - is compatible though). A lot of essential apps are pretty useless too - for example, MS Portrait.

Yea, that definitely kills it for some people. I wouldn't want incompatibility like that either.

Looks like a pretty nice device - I haven't had much experience with the 6500 series, but it felt good in the hand and had a decent keyboard. Hopefully it will get picked up by more carriers than the 6300 was...

I don't think the 240x240 is going to be a big deal much longer. Since I've had my 6515 more and more apps are becoming compatible with its screen. The ones that aren't it is usually barely a noticeable problem. This has been my experience so far at least.

Oh that looks nice. That might be the next one for me. I need to take a look at the 8125 too.

I think this release buries the idea of that HP 6828 model, based on O2 XDA ATOM, right? So it's bad... at least the ATOM has a 320x240 display... I'll stick to the ATOM.

Although the Loox is an interesting device it's short in 2 areas - only 64MB of RAM (which is okay for a lot of people) and the lack of quad-band GSM.
If the specs on the Loox are correct it won't be a big player here in the U.S. because it's only a tri-band GSM device and it's 900/1800/1900MHz, whereas the biggest GSM carrier here, Cingular, is 850/1800/1900. No quad-band means Loox will continue (in the U.S.) to be a secondary player. The HP will do much better here. But I agree with the original assertion that the Treo 700w, even though it appears to have lesser specs, will probably do better - the Treo name carries a lot of weight.
Personally, I'm looking at the 8125 (the HTC Wizard) as well - quad-band GSM, 320*240, and a full 128MB of RAM.

Since using a Treo 700w exclusively now for several weeks, I can say that a square screen is not at all an issue. I'd prefer 480x480 by sure, but frankly I've been very happy with it. The only thing I miss are some games.
