How to not autoclose apps at 5MB?

Apparently, after the OS upgrade, the 700W auto-closes applications when RAM drops below 5 MB. This is terribly annoying as I always run around this level. I was trying to cut and paste something from one app to another and I couldn’t. When I opened one, it closed the other, back and forth…

So, does anyone know how I can change that threshold to around 3 MB or so instead or 5? Some kind of registry hack?
