I use TV Remote Controller (http://www.pdawin.com/) and it works well with very good range. The only problem is that you can't rotate the software (the A716's IR is on the side of the device). But, I also have NYDITOT Virtual Display, so it's not so bad for me. Also, you can train it for voice commands, so you can just point the IR and talk. Or, you can just look at it sideways, which also works.

It's been a while since I bought this software, but I remember demoing a few others before settling on this as the best for me. I also recall being impressed with Vito Technology's remote program, and remember that it could be rotated to face the same way as the IR port.

Both Remote Controller and Vito are "trainable" from the original remote control to work with any component.
