I700 and Bellsouth Email

I have Bellsouth email and when I log on to bellsouth on my Samsung I700 I can recieve mail just fine. When I try to send I get an "invalid recipient" message. My wireless company (Verizon) tells me I need to be an "authenticated user" on my Bellsouth account and Bellsouth tells me there is no such designation. Incoming and outgoing servers are set at mail.bellsouth.net which bellsouth tells me is correct.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
