Default X50V IR ???

Can anyone tell me if the x50v has IR that will work as a remote control? I read one review that said it could be used as a remote but did not come with Nevo software like HP. I just looked at another that said it comes with standard IR not Consumer??? I'm a little confused now. I currently have an iPAQ2215 that has Nevo software and can be used as a remote control for stereo and TV. Do you know if the x50v can do this?

The X50s have FIR, as opposed to CIR. You can still load remote software and use it, but chances are it won't work very far away.

Some people have said ~10 feet, others ~20. Not sure how much of that is a varience in the power of the transmitter across devices vs. a sensitivity of the receiving equipment.

The upshot is that while it's not "officially" CIR, if your living room is small enough, it'll work. It's even packaged (I believe) with a demo of a remote control software package.

The X50v definitely does officially have CIR. It does not, to my knowledge, have FIR.

be carefull of what you say mr. because i read the pdf and it doesn't say anything about any CIR, it says otherwise, so unless that's incoorrect, i would like for you to show specs of that.

The PDF spec sheet? It does NOT state that the X50 lacks CIR. It simply says that the X50s support the IrDA 1.2 standard, which does not exclude CIR. I have the Dell pre-press Powerpoint presentation, which clearly states that it is CIR. And more to the point, I have an X50 and X50v, which I have tested using the included IR remote control software, and they do have CIR.

I guess he did didn't he. Well at least dell didn't tell me, now I just might get the x50v instead of the loox 720, WHICH states that it HAS a CIR, and leaves NO confusion as to WHAT it HAS.
