Default Using X30 on a home wifi network

I plan on getting the Linksys Speedbooster 802.11g router. I then plan to purchase the Axim X30 to surf the web from anywhere in my house. Can anyone comment on using the X30 to surf the web on their wifi set up at home. What are some positive and negative comments. Should I go with my plan or not spend the money and just sit at my desktop as I do now?

Default x30 and netgear g

I have a netgear router 802.11g , it works perfectly, worked right away. For some reason I have to enter the WEP key each time I do a soft reset. Could not figure out this one.
Otherwise .. worked like a charm and I do my sync wireless as well.

I guess it depends on whether you want to surf using a small screen. I use my PDA to surf but not that often as I have a notebook computer to use which has a much better screen as well as a significantly faster processor

I listen to internet radio on my iPaq sometimes. I surf sometimes, and it's better with my new VGA iPaq hx4705, but it's still nothing like desktop browsing. IM is nice too though.

I find it's convenient to have an internet setup for your Pocket PC at certain times. While I enjoy using my desktop or laptop to be on the internet, it's nice to be able to sit on the couch sometimes and surf the net with a handheld. You have the functionality there, and you do away with the added bulkiness of having to have a laptop on your lap the whole time.

Of course, with an X30, you are only limited to a 240x320 (portrait) or 320x240 (landscape) resolution, but it is still "manageable" though. Of course, a VGA device would make browsing the internet a pleasant experience, but then that would cost even more money... Besides, there are a host of browsers for the Pocket PC that scale the webpage to the screen size so you do away with the annoyance of having to scrolling horizontally.

The Linksys Speedbooster 802.11g router works fine with my iPAQ's (5450 and 4700) so you shouldn't experience any setup problems. In addition to web browsing (which can be a bit trying) I use my WiFi connection to sync things like Journal Bar (news, weather, etocks, etc) and other news feeds, sync mail, etc. Easier that firing up the PC and cradling to get that Internet access.

Are you going to use the AP/Router for something other than the X30? A laptop maybe? Otherwise, the WiFi in the X30 is B. It will certainly work on a G AP...in B or mixed mode...at B speeds, which are overkill for the processing power of the PPC already. If the only reason for the AP is the X30, consider a B AP/router. They are half the price.

Thanks to all for the great info. Yes I do see a need to sometimes not be in the office at the desktop or surf using the laptop so having a handheld device will be a great fill in. I'm also going to add Teletype GPS to the X30 for navigation. I'm waiting to pick up the Palm Treo 650 that is due out soon so I think I will have enough gadgets to cover the bases. ( That's until the wife finds out how much money I spent )
