Default Replacing the x51v touchscreen myself

Hi,

My x51v touchscreen is broken and I am considering replacing it myself after buying the part here:

http://www.gethightech.com/Merchant2...egory_Code=DIG

since it costs $50 as opposed to the $150 fee (plus shipping and longer wait) I would pay for a mail-in repair service here:

http://www.pocketpctechs.com/main~un...m~D50-TS01.htm

However, before deciding to do it myself I would like to find some kind of tutorial online teaching how to do this, or at least some assurance that it is not hard. :-) Can anyone offer hints on the matter?

Thanks,

Rodrigo

I've always understood this to be darn difficult, mostly because you get a TON of dust between the LCD and the touchscreen.

It depends. I swapped out the screen on an ipaq 5455 and it was a piece of cake. The touchscreen/LCD was a sealed unit so no dust problems. However, this doesn't have the LCD, so dust might be a challenge. You might try the home cleanroom trick of a steamy room to cut down on dust. You might contact Steve Sego (he does this regularily on the Dells - I bought an x51v from him he had repaired). He lists on Aximsite under ssego.

I know the cost difference is pretty significant, but I also want to chime in with my opinion that PPCTechs does excellent work. If you have any doubts at all about your ability or willingness to do the repair yourself, you won't regret using them.

Thank you. I have been reading that PPCTechs does a great job. I also see that PDASmart.com does the same job for 2/3 of PPCTechs's price, but I don't have any references about them. Does anyone know about their quality?

Their link is http://www.pdasmart.com/aximpartscenterx51.htm

Thanks,

Rodrigo

Newbie here!
I think its best to have it replace by experts, for me its far more reliable and safer, not to mention if they offer warranty the better.
