Default RAM - ROM Help

Hi I'm a PPC n00b.

I just purchased an AXIM X5 advanced. 64MB SDRAM and 48ROM, right wrong! hehe

igot 63.33MB of RAM and thats perfect, however I have 21.33MB of ROM. Take 48MB minus 21.33 and thats what I'm entitled to...

Does anyone know why this is or do I have some ROM chip that self canniblaizes itself. Otherwise, everything with the device couldnt be better.

One more question tho...Is the SD slot on the DELL an SDIO; meaning, could I put an SDIO wi-fi card in there?

Thanks in advance!

Congratulations on your purchase....I also have the Axim X5 Advanced...I've had it for about 8 months now and definitely don't regret the decision.

Your Axim does come with 64 Mg of RAM....keep in mind that 1Mg = 1,024b, not 1,000 so 64 Mg does not precisely equal 64,000,000b. There may be some overhead for a file allocation table as well, which will use a very small amount of your memory.

Your Axim also comes with 48 Mg of flash ROM, but much of it is used by the operating system itself. The remainder is left for us to use. This is a great storage area to keep important data because it will still be available in the event of a reset or power loss.

The SD slot on the Dell is not enabled for SDIO, so unfortunately any SDIO devices will not work there. Typically, the SD slot is your better choice for extra memory....it will be slightly more expensive than CF memory, but you can buy various accessories for your CF slot such as: modem, WiFi card, IR extender, etc.....

Hope this helps with your questions.....

thanks a million. i thought it was probably the os and critical files taking up that space. and I am very happy with the Axim... I was all set on getting the HP 1945 because of its sleek beauty but I would be short a CF slot, a mushy d-pad, and good battery life. I love the Axim because the battery is superior to most other handhelds.
