Dell Axim and gps

Hi I was wondering what everyone's take preference was when it came to a gps add on for the Dell Axim X5. I have the 300mhz version and I have been using the pharos external antenna version that has worked pretty well for me considering its my first experience with gps. However I heard that teletypes world navigator is a lot more customizable. Does anyone have opinions on any gps's for the dell axim? Thank you

Personally, I would stay away from Teletype, unless you have a plane. If you're looking for vehicle navigation and you live in the US or Canada, I'd strongly recommend Routis or iGuidance, both of which are OEM builds of Netropa's Intellinav. They're newer than Mapopolis (link is correct but site is down at the moment), just as fast at route calculation and re-routing, and have a much nicer UI.

I have had Routis for about 6 months now, and I couldn't be happier with it.

If you can afford it, you may want to pick up a better GPS unit - the best ones these days have SiRF Star II LP chipset, and you can get a nice bundle from Deluo with Routis for under $250.

I have had the Tom Tom unit for a few months and have been very impressed with it.

Also been using the TomTom in the UK for the past few months and it is excellent, tho there are some areas where the mapping dosn't quite match the terrain.
Over all I'm quite impressed with it.

Every GPS I have used has had problems with the maps not being as up to date as I would like. Do all GPS makers basically have to get their base maps from the same place?

I think so. I think the choices are Navtech, which provides maps for Mapopolis and Routis/iGuidance, etc., and TeleAtlas, which provides maps for TomTom.
