Axim X30 - Is it dead?
I have a 1 year old Axim X30. Just tried to turn it on.
Screen is only vertical stripes (left 1/3 of screen is white, next 1/6 is black, right 1/2 is grey stripes).
Tried a soft reset - same deal.
Tried a hard reset - same deal.
:?: Any words of wisdom? Is it worth the money to try getting it fixed?

Pull the battery, let it sit for a couple of hours (3-4), put the battery back. Good luck. Even a hard reset, doesn't always un-glitch things.
I honestly don't think fixing an X30 would be economical. Hard to say what it would cost, not knowing what is wrong, though.

Sounds to me like you have a damaged LCD cable. If the X30 is within its warranty period, you should be able to get a replacement from Dell.

If you're not still under warenty, but you have homeowners or renter's insurance, it may be covered by that. I'm about to get a new PDA for under $100 after what my insurance is likely to give me for dropping and breaking my X5, because I was fortunate enough to put accidental damage coverage on my renter's insurance policy.

And you are agonizing over whether to get an X30 or an X50? X50v, by all means. More ROM, VGA, CF slot (and SD), WM5 upgrade...

I'm definitely NOT getting an X50v. VGA is not worth an extra $100, and even if it was, I just don't HAVE an extra $100! I'm agonizing over the extra $50 the X50 520 will cost me over the X30. I'm trying to find one of those 20% off Axim X50 coupons, that will make the decision a little easier
It really bugs me though that the X30 isn't getting the upgrade, because I don't need or want the CF slot, I don't have any CF cards and I don't plan on getting any. I'd rather have the smaller, lighter model with the faster processer (and the free carrying case) but I don't want to miss out on an upgrade that will be here so soon.

Yum, I love eating my words I did find a coupon but it's only good for 25% off the X50v, not the lower model. But with their special right now, they have a package with an X50v with an extra battery for 30% off, which stacks with my 25% off, and then I have another $35 off coupon, so the whole package ends up being only about $20 more then the X30. I can live with that, especially with the extra battery. No free case, but it's still a pretty good deal.

BTW, IMHO, the X50 is not significantly bigger than the X30. Heavier, yes. The X50 is more comfortable to hold too, again, IMHO. I'm sure that comes with the slip case.
