Default XDA SD Cards

Following on from my GPS post, it is obvious that you are going to need a big (read BIG) SD card. As a temporary measure I'm using a 64MB cards - which was just lying around. This is now full and this is only my second month with the XDA! In the UK, at least, we seem only to be able to get a SD max size of 128MB. Not bad, but I figure 90MB for full TomTom Maps etc around 64MB for normal data and programs and the rest for music. 128MB doesn't get you very far. Now I know you can get 256MB and even 512MB SD cards the question is from where and how much and will they ship to the UK and will I have to pay the UK Value Added Tax (VAT) on import ? (At 17.5% this is quite big.) Any ideas anyone ? I should mention Mighty Sync at this point - but I think Jason has this covered elsewhere.

Russ
Apologies if people consider this to be the wrong forum and it is perhaps not a unique XDA problem. But it is a problem for ALL XDA users.

256mb SD card - Actually found a store with it in stock. www.mobileplanet.com the sandisk was $139 US it was $151 after shipping. That's as much as I can help with.

I want to buy more memory for my xda

dabs.com are doing this deal at mo:

128MB Secure Digital (SD)
Take more pictures with your digital camera. Fit more E-Books on your PDA or carry more music on your MP3 Player with this massive 128mb SD Expansion Card.
Ģ59.00 (Ģ69.32)

Do you think that this is a good price for 128MB? - if not can u recommend somewhere cheaper??

Also - I don't understand what the other type of card is that u can put into the slot - MMC or summat - can anybody shed any light on this?

cheers

There is a US company that does internal memory upgrades to PPCs, and has just begun them for the T-Mobile PPC Phone (xda in UK). Epansys is UK agent. I'm waiting for response from them re UK based upgrades, & will post here)

The US version offers 128 & 256, leaving SD slot free for card or orher uses.

(What other uses are there? Are WiFi cards, cameras, CF adapters, or anything else useful available in this format?)

I have seen adverts for an internal RTAM upgrade - my worry would be the impact that this may have on battery life??

Expansys are a good company, but hugely expensive for SD cards.
I got my 256MB SD from here:
http://www.picstop.co.uk/pages/produ...igitalcard.htm

One bizarre thing, contrary to the technical specs, it seems to be a bit slower than my old 128MB MMC. Strange as the specs say it should be much faster.

You may want to try here for 512Mb SD cards, http://www.doml.com.sg/product.asp?id=522 . SG$679.56 before taxes and shipping. Seems pretty reasonable to me.
