Welcome, masterchief! As Hrun mentioned, surfing is not as comfortable as it is on a desktop. That said, it's certainly easy enough, especially if you use mobile versions of sites, such as gmail.wiggster.com and the mobile version of this and other
ThoughtsMedia sites. You can also use the (free)
Skweezer service to view regular, non-formatted sites - Skweezer acts as a proxy and will reformat any page to fit the small screen of your device. You may also want to look into BitStream's
ThunderHawk browser. It's a bit steep at $50 per year, but it will also reformat any web page to fit your screen.
As far as the size goes, I typically wear my PDA2k (same as the sx66) on my belt, and I don't have any problems. I've started carrying it in my pants pocket from time to time, and that's fine as well.
