Default 6315 Bugs me list

In the name of sharing my early (11th day) experiences with my 6315, thought I'd share some of the bugs I've found so far...and that cause me to stay on the fence about whether it makes it past day 14 in my life.

Yesterday was my first trip on the road that I decided to give the blackberry a rest and take only the 6315. No laptop either.

And here's what I found to be a real pain

-Biggest issue is around email performance. Even connected to WiFi, the time it takes the unit to download email is incredibly slow. Great at grabbing headers, but if I ask for the meat of the email, it takes for ever. For a 5kb email, it's not uncommon for it to be "receiving" for 5 minutes. Of course, in all the areas you wish the OS to be verbose, there's nothing to indicate why on earth it can't move a 5kb email in seconds.

-If the unit is collecting email and times out, the battery goes with it. It displays a message indicating it's timed out, and doesn't do 2 critical things. A-get back to work trying to grab the email. I'm positive this happens on my blackberry as well, but I'm not bothered with excuses. it just goes back to reestablishing a connection and getting to work. B-Because the pop-up error message remains on the screen, the unit doesn't turn off. This is an incredibly irritating issue. Mostly because if you haven't been baby sitting the unit and you come back to it some time later, it's run the battery dead.

-Dpad is ridiculous. First it's raised. So forget about the case. If the unit wakes for some reason, the dpad becomes depressed, and...the battery dies. Second, I can't use the dpad to move up and down only. If you're in a context menue that restricts movement to up and down only, no problem. But, if for instance, I'm in Outlook and want to scroll up and down my inbox, I invariably end up in the next email account because the dpad has interpreted my up/down command as a desire to move left/right. I hope this is a defective unit, and replacing it will solve the issue.

-No caller specific ring tones. not that that really matters since you can't hear the unit ring in the first place.

-Speakerphone/speaker distorts at the highest level.

-Screen doesn't stay off while the unit collects email in the background. For having given up such a large amount of CPU power, you'd think this would be a natural battery-saving feature HP would incorporate into it.

-Nitpick, but the case is absolute junk and clearly shows a lack of interest by HP in thinking about how a typical business user would employ a case, or the entire phone for that matter.

-Attachments in email, when executed, can bring the entire unit to a halt.

-I've soft reset not less than 30 times in 11 days.

-I've hard reset due to the SMS account just disappearing for no reason. Tmobile always suggests a hard reset--assuming you can find a rep that knows what a 6315 is.

-Tmobile might be guilty of putting a little too much of their software on the surface. Instant messaging comes to mind, and it's a clear departure in user experience and interface from the MS written code.

-The keyboard is pretty good, but the detachable thing isn't really that cool in my mind. I have XDA envy in this department, but I'm unwilling to shell out a grand for a yet-to-be-proven stable OS.

-On a recent flight, even though the unit was in "Flight mode" I opened my bag, upon arrival, to find that it had been busy downloading email. Either HP has some incredible technology that knows you're no longer "in flight" or my 6315 could have been the phone that "interfered with the plane's navigation equipment" and caused us to fall out of the sky.

-Overall, the most difficult part of owning this unit is knowing that it requires attention. It's supposed to relieve stress and keep the trains running on schedule. In reality, it requires me to think about it constantly and have a slight nervousness about its reliability. Bad!

It's dangerously close to right. I sure hope HP/TM get with the updates, as I see a lot of funny stuff being reported on this unit and I'm certain my experiences aren't too far from the norm.

Regarding your e-mail troubles, have you applied the update from T-mobile?

Hope it helps!

I have to agree with your biggest issue, re: Babysitting the 6315.

- After downloading the e-mail patch, I can now "send" e-mails. Before, I just thought I was going crazy when it timed out.

- The speaker is lousy. You'd expect a decent speaker with as much money this unit costs.

- Any e-mail over 10k gets the "Windows Flag" when trying to open. I'm not looking for blazing speed, but my IPAQ 3835 blows this out of the water.

- I'm using the Jabra 250 BT headphone. Talk about instability! I'm actually afraid to use it for fear that I'll have an important client not be able to hear me. When calling someone, they can usually hear me. However, when someone calls me... I sound like I'm on Pluto.

I usually have to reset both the Jabra & the 6315 to get any kind of results.

All I want is stability. It's not asking too much to be able to hear someone on the speakerphone without it sounding like it's coming from a 1/32" tweeter.

Overall, I still love the idea. Hopefully, HP/TMobile will provide us with more patches and improvements.

A recall to improve the speakerphone would be monumental, but undoubtedly a dream.

!!!!!! THIS IS SO FUNNY BECAUSE I WAS JUST ABOUT TO MAKE A POST SOMETHING LIKE THIS !!!!!!!  anyways i was gonna ask everyone to post to see if they were having the same problems i was having

1. Does everyone camara jittery when u move it around??? like if you are trying to take a picture of a moving object the pic on the phone is trying to keep up with the camara and if u take the pic i always is blurry.

2. sms messaging...... sometimes people dont get your 2ways or if u do a reply to a message they dont get the text or they get a message saying no text displayed..... i have to do a soft reset just to make it work.

3. setting up ring tones: when you set it on "vibrate then ring" it vibrates but may ring once and no more after that.

4. if you have a sd card in the slot if u put anything new on it u have to reset he phone to make it see whats new on that card.... even if u put the card in the phone while the power is off

5. Speaker phone is very low even at highest setting.

CAN WE PLEASE GET FIXES FOR THIS TMOBILE ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!!? dam i dont no why they didnt relase the mda 3 over here instead of this...... whoever mad that decision needs TO BE FIRED IMEDIATLEY

Just got off the phone with TM after (foolishly) thinking this would be my device to get me through this week's business travel--to find the phone/device COMPLETELY dead.

The TM rep told me that having to reset the device more than 5 times a day is above average, 2-3 times being the "general rule."

So long 6315...back to the PDA graveyard you go.

I had a similar issue with the flight mode. I set "Flight Mode On" and when I got out of the plane, the flight mode was off and it was connected via GPRS

Is this a common issue? Is there any workaround?

Would also add to my list that my SMS message box keeps disappearing, leaving me with a hard-reset option as the only way to get it restored (Tmobile's suggestion).

On the entertaining side of the experience, I quite enjoy the battle my ipaq loves to play with me, whereby I need to shut the screen off so I can leave my room and get to a meeting (meaning I need to put my ipaq away), and the screen keeps turning back on (presumably because HP thought the screen should be on when the iPaq is getting email), and then the battery goes dead because the screen was active and accepted every bit of case pressure, bump of the screen, or the wind blowing as an indication that the unit is in use...instead of just letting the screen be off while the radio works to retrieve email. Last I checked a radio didn't require a screen to work. But it's fun.

Sounds like most of these issues are due to poor cases. First thing to do is to disable the buttons when the device is off. Second is to get a case that will not allow the buttons to be pushed.

Using the supplied case I have made calls just carrying it around when I had the buttons able to be used when it is off.

The red phone button will ( if held for about 30 seconds ) turn the phone on or off. This could explain how it gets turned on accidentally.

Mine is now living in a rigid plastic case of my own design.

Well..... here are some of the issues i have found!

Email Triggers - Finally working great. However... after downloading email GPRS connection stays on. Is there any third party app that will kill a GPRS connection after xx seconds of inactivity?

Bluetooth Headsets - I had a Motorola HS82 (or something like that) and a SonyEricsson HBH-65. Tmobile said those are not compatible. The told me i need to get the Belkin headset which i did. Still... some people when they call me, they can't hear me. That's gotta be the biggest pain in the butt ever.

and of course.. .the 3-5 soft resets i need to do on a daily basis... how can i forget. it is becoming part of the routine. Wake Up, make coffee, take a shower, drink coffee , soft reset Ipaq... and go to work...

I sure wish HP or TMobile played "troll" here and responded to some of these issues. It's such a promising concept, but it has to work. I've been waiting for my replacement 6315 (3rd) and have been using my old T610 while I wait. Sure is nice to not have to worry about how stable the phone's going to be, not resetting, etc.
