Default Toshiba e310 boot probs from a Pocket PC dummy

I was given a gift of a recon'd e310 of which the 90 day warr has now expired.
I am getting major reboot problems now (102 days later!)
It started with a build of of needing to use the reset to start it now and again, to every time to now unable to boot.

I reinitialised it and restored a backup - and got the same problem within a day or 2.

I have tried initialising it and now getting it the same day without restore!!!

The latest is trying to switch the power off by the battery switch - Getting desparate.

Helllppp - Any ideas???

The Home program in ROM (and backup program) by Toshiba has never worked well for me. I've quit using their ROMware entirely and believe it has helped. The battery off switch at the bottom of the unit has worked for me in the past. Forget restoring from a backup when the major problem starts and reload wares in steps to determine if a particular ppcware is causing an issue. Some programs may be in conflict. For whatever reason, there are two nice task switcher freewares I'm afraid the e310 just doesn't like or some other program I have loaded doesn't like. If this doesn't work, you could try calling Toshiba. The last time I tried, I can't say they were much help. For them the e310 is old and you're pretty much on your own. Buy a good backup program like Sprite's Pocket Backup should things settle down and save that setup that works. Mine has proven reliable after some weeping and gnashing of the teeth on the setup. However, it has trained me to Soft reset a time or two each day even while things are running fine.

Thanx Baker,

As I said, I am a Pocket PC dummy and just learning.

Can I assume from what you said to try that I need to....

Initialise (Don't restore any backups)
LOad replacement software that the e310 would use instead of their homepage etc?

or

Is there a complete replacement romware option (A bit like formatting a desktop PC and loadinga new op sys?

Toshiba Support basically told me to go forth and multiply!

I really do appreciate this guys

Thanks again

1. Hard reset. This wipes the slate clean and your left with only that in ROM. Think of ROM being permanent, the microsoft programs that came with the PPC. The hard reset clears out the RAM, all data and programs added after your purchased. Hard Reset gets you back to the beginning.
2. Load the programs you just wiped out.

You'll need to delete your current AS partnership to sync back with your PC.

Mine has run fine for about 9 months and last night I loaded another free task switcher. I should have known better. Things have slowed to a crawl and Pocket Backup can't restore from the exe file. Tonight I'm going to hard reset and reload as well.
