Default question for e740 users :-)

Hello. Im thinking of getting an e740 for my next ppc. do these things support multiple button press (press directional button and action button at same time. im concerned with this feature cause i wanna play games on it)?

also, would you guys recommend a different ppc that isnt the e740, but is in its price range. ive looked around and it seems like the e740 has everything i want. does the e740 and toshiba ppcs dependable too?

I would recommend, if you're on a budget, looking for an e750 rather than an e740. I have an e740 and while I am happy with it, it does have a history of problems since Toshiba seems to have been testing several concepts with it that it didnt' really get get right completely until the e800 series. The e750 though solves most of the problems with the e740, though.

Improvements are :

Larger and brighter screen
More RAM (I believe?)
Updated processor with twice the cache (and signficant performance improvement)
Windows Mobile 2003 instead of Pocket PC 2002
More stable and less likely to hard reset so I hear

I wouldn't recommend an e740 to a first time PDA user as it is likely to scare them away. If you still get one and go into it knowing its a bit on the touchy side, you can still get a lot out of it. I use it for gaming and surfing the net and it does do its job well. How much can you get the e740 for? Its likely someone knows a better option at teh same price.

If you don't mind having the latest operating system, the 740 is ok... but it is slower and not nearly as stable as the 750 or any of the other WM2003 based devices. If gaming and wireless are your primary activities, you might want to look at the new ASUS 716.

if money is a object, buy a ipaq 1945 with sdio wifi, or e750, or an asus a620. Look at shopper.com , shopping.yahoo.com , or pricegrabber.com for the best deals.

I was one of the lucky few who got an e740 that worked. No problems except the messed up start menu fonts: no battery problems, no network problems, no screen problems. It was a real trooper.

Until about two months ago, when it started hard resetting on me every so often for no reason. I think a static bolt took it out, but who knows?

My advice: go for the e750 if you can afford it. By all accounts, it is a much more stable and hardy device, and can run WM2003. Money spent on the e740 is too much of a gamble.

Being using e750 for few months, no problem occurs.
Kinda stable. So go for it!

I know my E740 doesn't do multiple button presses well at all. There is still some button lag even with the latest ROM update. For gaming I really wouldn't recommend it.
