Default Defected Mitac Mio 558

My problem, in email form, as I related to Mio Tech Support.

This is the second Mio 558 I've gone through. The first one had the
same problem only it made itself apparant much sooner. I'm emailing
you in hopes that my problem, because it couldn't possibly be an
isolated experience, is one that Mitac is aware of and possibly has a
solution to.

The defect, it seems, is solely related to the WiFi. At random times
(though it seems even more frequent now with the replacement than it
did with the original), the device, upon activation of the WiFi, would
undergo a hard reset, deleting everything not on the dedicated storage
memory. This of course makes the device practically useless as my data
would be randomly inaccessable away from my computer.

Aside from this, the IR port has also defected. However the port
although a nice feature was not essential to the device function
though it doesn't help my dimishing faith in Mitac Mio products.

Easily the benefit of the doubt can be given for one device of a line.
However two shotty devices in a row is unforgiveable considering the
enormous hassle it is to send back the device and convince the
retailer of the defect and the warranty, not to mention the data loss.
Given that at the time I purchased the device, the mio was one of the
first retail devices you had and it offered more than any other device
could in one small package, and given that before I went through the
retailer and I hope to have better luck with you, I am asking that you
replace my device with one of your highest quality. I have had my
first replacement for less than a year and had had the original for
less than a month before that, so I can't imagine your warrantly
doesn't cover it. However, a third defected device will leave me to
demand a replacement of equal function from your competitor.

I sincerely hope to hear back from you soon.

No reply yet. But if anyone has any firmware updates or other possible solutions, please let me know. I will keep posted updates from Mitac, however until then I would highly recommend delaying any purchase of this device. On paper it seems great, holding it even feels great, however this problem is unforgiveable. Combined with the IR port, this leads me to believe that Mitac sells low quality products. The product only has to last as long as the warranty and then the large amount of money I spent is wasted.

Aside from the defects, the inconvenience of Mitac being a rare name in the United States, being inaccessible for support, and even rarity of peer support in forums, along with lack of accessories and part replacements: they are horrible inconviences that I suggest people stay away from.

Any help is more than welcome.
