Acer n311: No voice record app?

I see the "hotvoice.exe" application in the Windows folder on my Acer (sorry, my "Pocket Achiever"), but clicking it doesn't do anything. And, unlike the other Pocket PCs I've had, there's no option in the Buttons control panel to set a button to be the Record button.

I use VITO's Button Mapper, and it shows an option for Record, but assigning it to a button doesn't work.

So my question to the other readers on these boards is this: How do I get back the functionality of single-button voice recording on my Acer?

(P.S. I've bought WebIS's VoiceMinder, but it's not really doing it for me. I don't often have a live connection when I think of things I want to record, so having to send the recordings through my e-mail, or remember later to connect and send all the recordings stored in its database, defeats my purpose.)
