Try here (expansys USA, no import tax or vat), global warranty by FSC USA.

Hi,

I live in the US, and just placed my order for the Loox 720 today. I like this device much more than the other VGA devices, though was worried about the warranty.

I contacted expansys.com, and they said after 21 days, I must contact the manufacturer.

I contacted Fujitsu-Siemens, here in the US it's Fujitsu Support, and they stated that they will service the Loox 720 (I'm not sure if they'll send it to Europe or not). So, this is comforting.

Hope this helps

Here's the letter from Fujitsu:

I just bought the Loox from Clove Technology in UK and as several others have found, the screen is VERY fragile I suggest a hard alumnum case for it. I had it one week and broke the screen. Repair fron FS in th US? 600 US Dollars.
Called the UK and it is the same plus shipping making it about 650,
I paid that for the unit Beware if it is a nonwarranty repair as they are quite uncareing. I am in the process of trying a spanish company for a replacement screen. May just have to buy a new unit but it won't ever be a Loox again. Not after dealing with out of country support.
Oh I have a 3 year warranty for all the good it wil do when I open the case.

Hi Lee,

That's very unfortunate about the screen. What happened? Was it dropped? Was it banged into something?

I bought my Loox from Expansys Canada. I too was concerned about the issue of support and warranty, but honestly after exploring other PPCs I really wanted the Loox. Besides, I've already 150K on tuition/expenses, so I'll just chalk this up to "continuing learning experiences", i.e. making mistakes.

Keep us updated on your search. As a side question, do you know of others' experiences with out-of-country support for items that ARE covered by warranty?

Regards,

Jonathan

I had put it in my pocket and then had sunglasses in too. If you look at the FirstLoox forum some have just been holding in their hand and writing on the screen. In all cases the replacement of the screen is the exact cost or more as a new on $650 or more dollars. I have been to 5 repair sites and in contact with all of the FujitsuSeimens areas in UK and Germany and the US site and the answer is the same. I have a one week old 650 dollar paperweight.

Hi Lee,

Ouch! Your example is a clear illustration of the dangers of operating under poor warranty/support conditions. I also read your post on another loox thread of this site. I feel for you buddy, and it sucks to hear that you have, as you so aptly described, a $650 paperweight.

My one Loox issue so far concerns accessories. I accepted the possibility that it would be trickly to obtain accessories for the Loox in Canada, but then again, even my ideal shopping list would only be comprised of a few items - case (metal and/or leather with belt clip), keyboard, and screen covers. What I quickly found out was that Expansys is the main supplier, so if they are dragging their feet with an order, you are basically SOL. Accessories are obviously available from other sites too, but for us Canadians I'd unfortunately have to say the probability of faster delivery or better service is not significantly different than Expansys. I'd be happy to be proven wrong here. Given your story, and others, I'm treating my Loox like a rare historical artifact. It's not leaving my home until the accessories arrive.

Good luck with your search for a new PPC. In the future when Fujitsu-Siemens controls the PPC market worldwide, with FS service outlets in all continents, things will be much different. 8)

Regards,

Jonathan

I would seriously recommend Brando Workshop for accessories - delivery is fast (and cheap!) considering its overseas. Their service record is also very good. I'd take them over Expansys any day (and I've used both). Their Loox page is here:

http://shop.brando.com.hk/loox.php

I'm using their ultraclear screen protector, and I've got both the fliptop leather case, and the aluminum case, and I'm quite happy with the quality of all these items.

For cables and other stuff, my vote goes to Pc-mobile. Again, fast and cheap delivery, very good service record. He also posts sometimes on the http://www.firstloox.org/ forum and can be very informative. Pc-mobiles Loox page is here:

http://www.pc-mobile.net/loox.htm

Here you'll find the only third party USB host cable available (and its better than the stock one you get with the Loox), as well as a microphone input adaptor for the headphone socket.

Hey Hishamh,

Great site, thank you! I've just been checking it out. I think I may order my accessories from Brando from now on.
