Loox 420 and SD Card Speed

I have a Loox 420 (which is great by the way) but I can't quite get my head around the speed of the SD card.

I have TomTom GPS and various other software on the SD card and find it general slow to load. So I thought I'd buy a SanDisk Ultra II 1Gb to speed things up. Now I have it installed it's acctualy slower than my basic Kingston 512Mb and Viking 256Mb SD cards !!

General use appears just the same with no improvments so I did some benchmarks with Pocket Mechanic 1.52.

Viking 256Mb, Read 5.1X, Write 0.1X
Kingston 512Mb, Read 5.4X, Write 0.1X
Ultra II 1Gb, Read 4.7X, Write 0.1X

I've also tried pocketkai, Cardspeedtest software and get similar results.

Am I missing the plot here or is the Loox SD slot speed limited or something ? Thank you in advance.
