Default Broke my Jornada 565....Arghhhh

I did the stupidest thing and let my trusted Jornada slip out of my hands. It fell about 3 ft on the floor and my heart stopped for a split second hoping that the Jornada survived. It did turn on and i could hear different sound indicating that the unit is still functioning. but the there was some seriously lines that crossed the screen and it is non responsive when it is powered. Luckliy the screen did not shatter: only the the top left corner of the unit had come loose. My guess is that the cable connecting to the screen to the unit is loose. So my questions are:

1) can i do some field repairs and maybe get this unit working again?
2) if not fixable, what can i do with the accesories that i have for it like a Stowaway keyboard, a Linksys CF Wifi card and a pocket keyboard?
3) What can i do for a replacement standalone PDA ?

Thanks

merk

Default Jornada

I've got a 540 that I have for parts, how close are they? I can take it apart, and see what it looks like. If you need something off of it, you can have it. The unit is functional, it has a bad spot on the display, but other than that it works. If they are close, let me know what you need.

Good luck,

Thanks for the response Legacy

I dont think the parts in the 540 and the 560 are interchangable. The model are from different generations of Pocket PC. I think i might have to carefully disassemble my 565 and see if i can get it working again. But since you were kind enough to repsond maybe i can ask you: where can i still find a standalone PDA?

I went to HPs site after posting that message and I see they are much different. Sorry I couldn't be any help with this one. How did you make out with it anyway?

Take care,

Well Legacy I spent about 4 hours carefully disassembling and assembling the Jornada. There was no apparent damage to any parts inside the Jornada: the cables, the main board even the screen appears to be undamaged. I made sure that the cable connecting the screen to the mainboard was secure. Upon reassembling, I powered it on hoping that i had fixed the problem. But nothing: the same lines appeared and the Jornada chirped letting me know that it was ready to work.

So Im stuck. I really do miss having a Pocket PC around> i know my Razr and iPod Nano can do similar things but both perform it very very clumsily. So either i hunt down some repair service to get this Jornada repaired or i find some other Pocket PC /Windows Mobile device to replace it. There are not too many new models out there that use Windows Mobile that arent a smartphone. I am very very close to throwing up a post in the forums inviting other memebes to clean out there device closet and see if they want to get rid of an old unit.

Anyway thanks for the time and interest Legacy. Any advice/suggestions you can provide me is most welcome. Hope to hear from you soon

Default Sad tale

Well that is a bummer. I wish I had better answers.

I don't really use the 540 that much, if your interested.

Let me know,

Chris
