EM-500 freezing upon full reset

Hi all,

As I type, my EM-500 has been stuck at the "starting" screen for about 5 minutes. This type of freeze started as of a few days ago and no matter what I do, I can't get the thing to fire up all the way consistantly. Hard resetting with a fully charged battery has seemingly not made a difference and on top of that, its a struggle to even get the unit to power up to give me the memory initialization screens.
I'm putting my money on that it's pretty well toasted, but I'd like to know if there are any options at all I can do beside sending it on an all expense paid(by me) 6week+ voyage to casio. Any help you guys can give would be great. I'm an electrical engineer, so I'm not against cracking it open and having a look, but I'd really be interested in any prior experiences and/or schematic aids that I can get.
