Default Windows Mobile 2003

Nov 2003 I bought a HP ipaq 4155 recently it broke and with my extended warranty they replaced it with a HP ipaq 4150 which has Windows CE 4.20. What is this OS? Is it 2003 1st or 2nd edition? If it is 1st edition is there a way for me to upgrade only the OS to 2nd edition? I love my ipaq, but I just want to be able to keep it up to date.

If you have the 4155, it's going to be Windows Mobile 2003 (e.g., first edition). HP has provided no update for any of its devices running WM2003 to get them up to WM2003SE. Unlike PC operating systems, the OS on PDAs must be custom built for each device model it's to be used on, and HP evidently did a cost-benefit analysis and decided that not upgrading the older devices to the new OS was the way to go.

Sorry

Both are designated as 4.2. I would hazard a guess its 2003 and not 2003 SE as I don't think HP is offering any upgrade paths. on their current devices but I may be wrong.

See this link as to why I think its not SE - http://www.infosyncworld.com/news/n/5130.html

The 4150 and 4155 are the same device. HP has typically tried to define the sales channel using the last digit. One being retail the other business/enterprise, IIRC. There have been some differences in software bundled with the variations, but the basic machines are the same. the 4150/4155 are as has been said WM2003 devices, which run on WinCE 4.x. It is correct as well that there is no upgrade path to WM2003SE.

Also, you'll find that on most devices, they will specify WM2003 as WinCE 4.20, and WM2003SE as WinCE 4.21.

Actually, SE devices will actually read "Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition" in About. (About freakin' time, may I add.)
