Default why does everything delete when the battery runs out?!??!?!

I don’t understand this!!! Why does all data on your iPaq delete if the battery completely drains??? I understand that once the battery dies the only thing saving your data is the tiny backup battery on the ram chip which doesn’t last to long, but why didn’t the engineers use a CF type card or memory to prevent this problem. Is it so you’re able to perform a hard reset if you get a fatal error??? Or is it more efficient this way or something????

To get fast enough prosessing you need RAM... så therefore they use RAM i todays PocketPC's.

If you have a 39xx iPAQ there is a great function in the iPAQ backup utility that takes a backup of your entire RAM if the batterylevel goes under xx%.

If you have critical documents/files on your iPAQ, I would store it on a SD/CF-card. I do ;-)

oh ya, in my opinion they purposely make it that way so that:

1. Make you mad
2. some developer can make money selling backup utilitty
3. you can delete all those nasty leftover file clean!

I actually like the volatile RAM simplicity. IF you use iPaqBackUp regularly (especially before a trial software install), you can hard reset and be back to factory fresh and reinstall the last saved state in a couple minutes. The Sprite software included with the 3900's is lightning fast. You just need to get in the habit of having a recent stable system backup always available on your SD card. The newest backup versions can be programmed to do it automatically on a schedule.

A third party back up software has saved me alot. After a hard reset or getting my device back from warranty work, all I did was restore my most recent back up and I was up and going in like 5 minutes. All my settings were restored and everything. It was great, the only app I had to install was the backup program. And I have tried the built in ones that have come with my Jornada. But they never were able to restore or backup. Alot of the times they would just freeze my PDA and require a soft or in the rare occassion a hard reset to get it to respond again.

Speed and battery.

PPC RAM is MUCH faster than CF and uses up far less power to read and write data which is done CONSTANTLY by the OS with your RAM when the unit is in operation.

In any case, with Lithium Ion/Lithium Polymer batteries you shouldn't even be draining your batteries low enough to get close to that anyway... it hurts battery life...

BTW, all other PDA devices (except those employing a hard drive) use the same type of RAM and are prone to the same consequences if the battery is completely drained.
