upgrading to 2002 AKA the my swearing tirade

After many MF's and JC's I think I'm calm about this now to rant to the rest of the world. This is the third time I’ve upgraded my 3650. Just had the screen fixed by Compaq and it came back with 2000 on it. Anyhoo, it seems that after I set up yet another partnership (why the hell can't I point to an old one?) and then within Activesync's Add/Remove checkboxes, I install some Advantgo update, which messed up the graphic to Avantgo plus any functionality. I tap the messed up Avantgo graphic and it just sits there with the whirling globe ad infinitum. I have a feeling Windows Media Player won't let me copy songs again. And my old roommate stole my CD with Pac Man on it. Anyone know of where I can d/l it? Oh, and now when it makes sounds, it ends it with a big SMACK, as if it's telling me to kiss its ass. I cradle it and I here "toodle dee, SMACK!" Is there an update to quiet that down? Any other updates I should be getting? This is a Microsoft product after all.
