Default Updated dates on PPC2003 release

Is it any surprise that HP didn't live up to its 2nd estimate of delivery date? Let's recap: Check on June 23rd....nothing. Check in Mid July....and here is your answer:

Quote:

Yes, now I give all of you people opportunity to chime in about "I'd rather have an update that works...yada yada yada." This is SHAMELESS. To me, HP is saying, if you want the upgrade, why don't you spend $400 for a 2215. I know that the 2215 is a speed demon, but I want the update for the one that spent $650 on.

And now, we are forced to wait again.

Lucky you, I'm supposed to wait til September, and pay double/triple the price for the upgrade on the product I paid £650 ($910) for

Sure you'll be getting it later than you expected, but consider yourself lucky that you'll be getting it without having to fight for it, or put up with cripplignly bad performance.

Toshiba and Dell owners have it far far worse, count your blessings.

My order status still sayes it will be shipping on 7-28-03 (as it did when I initally ordered on 7-07-03) and should be delivered on 8-04-03. I wonder if HP just changed it to August to avoid having everyone calling in to find out where their upgrade is?

In my opinion this is a very bad move for hp and here's why:

August '02: I spend $750 US for the iPAQ 3975 to replace my week old Toshiba e740 which I was dissatisfied with.

August '02 to Present: Having Bluetooth I have purchased a BT cell phone, BT USB Dongle, BT PC Card, etc. just because I have BT.

Jan. '03: My power button falls inside the front bezel of the 3975. $750 handheld and I must send it back to hp for repairs after 5 months?? To be fair they had it back in my hands in less than 5 days and that was over a weekend too.

Present: A repeat of the PPC 2002 upgrade all over again; slipping dates with no explanation. hp may want me to buy a 2215 or 555x but I can assure you that I will not. I am through with hp. The shoddy workmanship on my 3630 (Compaq's fault) little nagging issues with my 3975 and PPC 2002...

I will certainly upgrade my 3975 to WM2003 but I will not buy another hp iPAQ. Like it or not, this fall when it comes time for me to get a new handheld my Pocket PC choice will be Dell. (Toshiba is still having too many problems. If they release a Transflective version of the e550g with a scroll wheel and removable battery then I'll buy it.)

Too bad hp isn't listening...

LOL you think Tosh are having problems? Go check the Dell Support forum for details on just what state they have released the Axim w/ 2003 in. That should change your mind on buying Dell next, and unless you're an especially brave soul wil also give you night terrors for many years to come.

mr_Ray,
True but I'm hoping that Dell will iron things out soon enough... Otherwise what choice do I have? The unproven JVC or Gateway PPCs? ASUS/Zayo which aren't easily available?

I like several design features of the iPAQ 2215 and love the size. But I want a scroll wheel for ebooks, and a larger battery. Plus there are numerous reports of faulty screens and some other problems.

To be fair I haven't been closely following the problems after WM2003 with each device, but that could turn into a full time job it seems.

Why is it that Toshiba can build such a wonderful laptop as the one I am using at this moment yet they can't get it right with the handhelds? I realize that the e75x is made by a different division of Toshiba than the e550 series but come on...

I'll upgrade my 3975 the instant the WM2003 CD is available as to me the improvements seem worthwhile but hp can count on me *not* buy a new device in the near future. I can't believe that I am saying this but I'm holding off my next PDA purchase to see what Palm puts into OS6... (I feel so dirty after saying that...)

<Shaking head at the current state of hardware...>

From what HP support tells me in Singapore, release date is 23rd July 2003. Can't imagine it coming out here first... Not that I'd be complaining if it did...

Now HP is saying that the devices won't be shipped until October. See the link below. It'll be 2004 before we know it!
