Default SD Card reading problem + How to tell if HC or just regular SD?

I was using a 1gb Toshiha SD in my ipaq hx4700. Bought a SanDisk 4gb and my device will NOT read it at all. However, the card itself is fine since when I insert in a card reader there is not a problem.

Any way to tell just by looking if I got a High Capacity SD and that is therefore the reason the device can't detect it?

Does it detect the SD card at all? Make sure the card is seating
properly. I have had the same problem with mem-cards working
in one pda and not working in others. Also, desktop machines
can sometimes bite-mark the cards for a specific mahcine.

Even if the capacity of the card exceeds what the 4700 can
read, it will still read min 1GB data on a 4 GB card.

Nope, not necesarrily. My Dell X50v will not read the 4Gb SDHC card at all I install the SDHC hack after which it reads just fine.

Most cards are marked on the label as SDHC, Isn't yours?
