Default Restoring iPAQ 3975 backup data to an iPAQ 5555

I am a new HP iPAQ 5555 owner. It was not entirely voluntary. Saturday I purchased the new SanDisk SD WiFi card and installed the software on my iPAQ 3975. It didn't work. I also damaged my SD slot so that I could no longer communicate with my SD card. Comp USA replaced my 3975 with the new 5555. I have a recent 3975 backup on my laptop and I thought I could probably use that to restore my data. It turns out that I cannot. Does any one have any suggestions on how to retrieve my data? I have installed the new iPAQ and have synched with my laptop to retrieve my calendar, tasks and contacts, but I can not retrieve other data such as Code Wallet data. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. Thanks.

If you synchronized your files with your laptop, then you should have a directory called <Pocket PC Name> My Documents. Simply copy the files from the 3975's My Documents directory to the 5555's My Documents directory. That will get the data there.

For items like Code Wallet, you'll of course need to install the app to your PPC.

If you did not sync your files with your laptop, then, I think you're out of luck. I don't know of any app that will "look" inside an ActiveSync backup. If you made the backup with another app, then you should check that app's documentation to see if it can do that so you can pull the files out.

If not, then you are out of luck. Word of advice: ALWAYS sync your files to your PC. That way, you have an unencrypted copy of the data on your PC.

Fortunately I regularly synchronize to my laptop and do a full backup from time to time. I have synchronized my 5555 and retrieved the data for contacts, calendar, tasks etc. I will try to locate the file that you suggest and see if I can restore my Code Wallet data. Thank you for your assistance.

Default Thanks for the help

Chris:

I did what you suggested, installed Code Wallet to my new iPAQ 5555 then located and copied the old iPAQ 3975 My Documets file and copied it to the iPAQ 555 My Documents file on my lap top. I then synched to my lap top and it worked!! I reteived all of my Code Wallet data, including many pin numbers and passwords that I never could have remembered or reconstructed. While the HP tech support person I talked to yesterday (before I posted my help message) was very nice and very sympathetic, he was pretty sure I had lost my data. Thanks again.
