Default New Aussie 1910 Owner with questions...

Hi Guys,

A couple of quick questions I can't seem to find while searching.

1) When I plug my 1910 into hotsync it switches on and stays on unless I manually switch it off. While the screen brightness is off, the thing stays on for hours unless I turn it off. Any ideas?

2) Anyone else based in Australia and been able to but a case for their 1910? I haven't been able to buy one locally and it seems as though the proporta and innopocket case websites don't offer international delivery. I have changed over from a Palm IIIC and LOVED the flip top case that is part of the Palm IIIC. Anyone know if something similar is available for the 1910?

3) Should I buy an SD card or is the other type MMC? a better choice?

4) I use my PDA for mostly calendaring and contacts but can anyone suggest any extra "must-have" software. With my old Palm IIIC the extra "must-haves" for me were SilverScreen, Bejeweled and AirMiles.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Cameron (in Australia)

3) I think you should buy an SD card. These cards will be able to have larger capacity, and then you can store more fun stuff like music, movies, etc.

4) Go ahead and do a forum search for "essential software" or "favorite software" or "software you can't do without" as there have been a lot of threads answering that exact question. And you can check out PocketPCFreewares for a lot of free software.

Enjoy the 1910!

Hey, welcome to the wonderful world of Pocket PCs.

Your first question: In order to synchronize your iPAQ to the computer, it has to stay on. Now, if you are not synchronizing and you are just charging, then go to Settings-System Tab-Power then select the ammount of time you want your iPAQ to remain on before it automatically turns off (make sure to pt a checkmark on external power).

I am not sure about your second question but I am sure there are many cases for your iPAQ and I could almost be sure that there's a fliptop case for it.

Your third question: I think, although I am not sure that SD is a better and widely available format since ironically today was the first time I saw an SD card. They seem to have the same price. Sorry I wasn't much help on that.

Your fourth question: If you like to keep a calendar and contacts, then I recoment Pocket Informant, which is an excellent application to replace the built in Pocket Oulook software. As for games, there are many clones of Bejeweled out there, the most famous one being Cropped Out, which is a very good game and in my opinion, beats the old Bejeweled game.

Hope I was some, help.

Good luck.

OK, I'm curious. Why is "Cropped Out" the "most famous" clone? Astraware, the company that makes "Bejeweled" for the Palm, also makes a clone called Diamond Mine for the Pocket PC.

Default Update - Got the case!!!

Hi Guys again!

Just an update on my questions. I just today received an innopocket aluminium case for my 1910 (AUS$56.57 inc freight). I am nothing short of amazed at the quality! It was delivered to my door from a Hong Kong address, very well packaged and quite promptly. The fit and finish are superb and all in all I feel very safe tossing the 1910 in my pocket without worring about car keys, mobile, coins or similar causing damage. One other interesting point is that when you open the case it opens to the right so that when you hold the whole thing in your left hand the flap of the case becomes a great hand rest for writing. There is only one very minor drawback, it is quite hard if not nearly impossible (especially with large fingers) to press the record button on the side. This won't pose a problem for me but if you were constantly using recording then I would look into a solution for this.

Highly recommended.

Cameron
