Default Keep the 5555 or go with the 4150?

I currently have a 5555. I have gone from the 3650 to the 5450 and now to the 5555.

My thoughts are this... I am not QUITE sure how important teh extra RAM is. I didn't see a significant performance increase for teh 5450 to the 5555. I have a PCMCIA and CF Plus sleeve for my 5555, BUT all I really used those for was storage for MP3s- and now I have an iPod.

THe form factor is an issue. I often leave my iPaq at home or in my car due to the fact that I cannot comforatbly fit it in my pocket alony with my cell phone, wallet, business card case, and moneyclip (and often blackberry too).

I am torn on getting rid my of 5555 for the smaller 4150. I'm just not sure exaclty what the complete pros and cons are. Any advice from the ppcthoughts gods?

I've had similiar thoughts, I love my 5555, but the size is too big. the batterypower is too small, and so on and so forth. I'm keeping my 5555 just because I hope that some day they will come out with a case that can accept the extended battery.

I'd say go for it. I was the exact same way with my 3650 and my 3950. I didn't bring them with me because they were too big. Especially now on campus with wifi, that would require carrying a sleeve and a card.

So I got a 2215. Much smaller, easier to carry. Even that is a pain though because then I have to carry the card. Even that is a pain for me now.

4150 looks just about perfect, at least for me, in size and feature set. Very small, and built-in wifi. No CF slot needed anymore, just my SD card for mem backup.

Default 5555 vs 4150

I have to agree ... I have a 5555 and I ended up going out and buying a 1940 a couple months ago just because of the form factor. The built in WIFi and the extra RAM was the ONLY thing the 5555 had going for it. The 1940 was SIGNIFICANTLY faster with the Samsung processor than the XScale on the 5555.

I do install alot of software so I appreciate the 128 megs in the 5555. If HP didn't cripple the 4150 by putting the XScale processor in it, (will have to see some benchmarks) I will likely upgrade to it also.

Default Toshiba versus Ipaq

The Toshiba looks very nice, but they have an unfortunate history of QC problems. I currently have an e310 (I'm waiting for my 5550/5555 to arrive) and honestly have some serious misgivings about purchasing another one. The screen is inconsistent (on the e740 as well) and many programs seem to prefer my colleague's Ipaq 3900 to the e310 - they simply won't run.

Well...the e800 obviously has the impressive VGA screen, which should become more commonplace hopefully over the next year. That is an option. The 5550 has a 3.8" 240x320 screen, which while it is physically larger by three tenths of an inch diagonally than the smaller iPAQs for example, it still has the same screen resolution.

I used to love the big 3.8" screen, it is nice, but for me, it was more important that I be able to carry my iPAQ around with me all the time. The only way that that was going to happen was with a smaller device, which for me was the 2215 first and now the 4150. It was absolutely worth it for me, it's a small trade off to get enhanced portability. I don't even notice a difference now. The dot pitch is tighter on these 3.5" screens as opposed to the bigger screens, and I love them now.

Just something to consider.
