Default HP rx3715's Media Launch Screen
I'm wondering whether it will be possible to replace the 4 icons with the traditional and more productive Today screen?

I'm not 100% sure about this, but I'm pretty certain that it's just a today plugin. You should be able to disable it from the Today screen settings by unchecking the appropriate box.

If I'm not right on this, somebody else please chime in.

I have played with the RZ (crap) at the store.

It is a today plugin,

you can disable it and return to the original pocket PC today screen
