I noticed this because when using other skins with media player the buttons stopped working. Intrigued I investigated further, my best guess is what HP have done is to stimulate screen taps in the area where the buttons are?

If you edit the skin file for the default WiMP skin and switch around the button functions you can make the buttons do anything within media player. Say take Next and Prev and swap them around they are also swapped on the headset!

Could it be being done by targeting the button presses to the "Windows Media" application? Is, is it possible to make a fake "Windows Media" player that takes the inputs and maps them to something useful? Beyond my abilities but maybe its possible... and then the buttons may work with all the apps such as betaplayer?
