Activesync is a program that runs on your Pocket PC and on your desktop computer (host) to syncronize useful content between the two systems. Such content could be a calendar, task list, email, etc.

Activesync allows you to syncronize through USB, Serial, and RAS. This extrapolates out to in addition to USB
Serial: Serial port, bluetooth, Infrared
RAS: Wireless (WiFi for example), LAN, Internet

You can access an SD card through a card reader. There are many available. You can also access the SD card while it is still in your Pocket PC from the computer if your Pocket PC is connected through Activesync.
