In short, no. The card should already be pre-formatted so all you need to do is stick it into your Pocket PC and you should be able to access it from File Explorer. People like to purchase a card reader though as it is very convenient removing it from the Pocket PC and sticking it into the card reader to transfer files to and from the PC. It's a lot faster that way, since a USB ActiveSync connection is slow for that sort of thing. If you do intend to purchase a card reader, it is very cheap, and you won't need software unless you use an OS other than Windows 2000 or XP. If you do require it, the drivers are usually included with the card reader.
