Videos to Pocket PC
I want to convert music videos I have in both [X]VCD (MPEG1) and SVCD (MPEG2) format to play on my Toshiba e805. The source file sizes are on average 50 and 100 megs respectively, so obviously I need small file sizes, but still need excellent quality.
What's the best conversion method and format to use???
TIA

Nope. PocketDiVX encoder gives me 30+ megs on a single video.
Any other ideas?

Urm, how about you lower the bitrate?
Are you sure you are not encoding in VGA size?

How small do you need to get these videos? Are you trying to put them on the internal memory of your PPC? I think the best compression method for quality (in my opinion) is XVid for video and Ogg Vorbis for sound. You can try downloading VirtualDub and converting the files using that, but if you want VERY small files, you are not going to have excellent quality.

No it's not VGA size, it's 320x240.
when I first tried this a year ago, i got these vids down to 5 - 7 megs for play on pocketdivx player using some guide. can't find the guide now. didn't like the guide cuz it required an older version of divx encoder to be installed on my puter (3.11 or 4.x it think). Actually it did involve VirtualDub.
fizzle, i'm babbling. lemme just go find that old guide
thanx anyway fellas

okay, found the guide but i really want to get convert vids to divx for play on ppc without having to install divx codec 4.12 on puter.
i'm currently using windows media encoder and honestly it's working work perfectly, but i want to try another alternative/method.
any other ideas/methods?

digit.. first.. divx 5 is better then 3.11 in all ways. second, what is the guide telling you to do that you cant do with divx 5.x? Third, whats the length of the video clips you are converting? Btw, 320x240 is vga. and you wont get great quality 320x240 unless you use atleast 250kbits a second (w/ b-frames). small clips can be between 3 and 7 megs, while half hour (22-24 minutes) shows can be between 40 and 60 megs depending on the quality audio used.
