Default Qik, Mobile Video Streaming Service, Enters Public Beta

http://qik.com/

"Qik is a little piece of software that enables you to stream videos directly from your phone to the Web. Use it to stream engaging videos to your friends in Facebook, Twitter, etc. or as your camcorder to capture entertaining and special moments...With Qik you can stream engaging video live from your phone to the world or use your phone like a camcorder to capture entertaining, interesting and special moments. Go LIVE with your life by streaming anytime, anywhere - right from your phone."

Qik has just entered public beta, with support for four WM devices: Samsung's SGH-i600 and BlackJack II, and Motorola's Q9c and Q9h.  Future support is planned for four HTC devices (Shift, Touch, Touch Diamond, and the TyTN II).  My one concern about this system is its effect on battery life.  Wouldn't capturing video and streaming it over 3G kill a phone's battery extremely fast?

Default Why

Why would you want to do this when the phone companies are putting a 5 GIG limit on your data. Read the fine print in your terms of service. Sprint was unlimited but changed that this month to 5 GIG. Sprint has told me after I filed a complaint with the FCC that their 5 GIG limit means that if I exceed 5 GIGs of data within 1 billing period that the service would be suspended until the new billing period starts and the 5 GIG restarts. I requested that in writing. It was my understanding of the terms of service that if you exceeded the 5 GIG limit that they could cancle your contract and terminate your service and charge you $200.00 for early termination. BE SURE to READ the TERMS of SERVICE.

I still have unlimited with ATT. I think this product doesn't have anything to do with the limitations of ones data plan, but the concept. I wanted it just the other day when I was on the highway and some guy was weaving through traffic. I would have loved to been able to capture it and send it direct to the CHP office before he killed someone.
