Ogg
We've heard so much about it, but no one has discussed how to convert from .mp3, to .ogg.
It seems like Winamp2, Winamp3, or WMP 9.0 are able to convert to it; therefore, what program(s) do you use to convert to .ogg?

There are a few threads on it here. Personally, I was introduced to dbPoweramp to convert and WinamPAQ to play on the PPC and can't say enough good things about them both. Great programs. |

The problem with that is that they are both compression schemes, essentially taking the larger 192kbps sample from a CD to a lower "frame rate" if you will, digitally. The difference in sound is due to them leaving out "frames" in different places.
If you turn a .mp3 to a .ogg it will end up with larger holes than before and be much worse than any normal .mp3 or .ogg.
You should just get WinamPAQ that plays both and uses skins and re-rip what you own (try a couple first) to .ogg and keep the .mp3s.... it won't be earth shattering. But I am ripping CDs at 96/kbps in .ogg and it sounds at least as good as .mp3 at 128/kbps.

Well, could any of you give me an example of how many megs less a .ogg is compared to a .mp3?

Not that I can say this average holds over multiple files compared, but just a quick check of a file on mine shows:
MP3 128kbps= 3.75 MB
OGG 64kbps=3.15 MB
Song length is 4:05. |

Sultans of Swing, by Dire Straits... 5min, 50sec
128kbp/s .MP3- 5.32MB
112kbp/s .OGG- 5.34MB
96kbp/s .OGG- 4.06MB
The 96 .OGG sounds at least as good as the 128 .MP3. I couldn't really tell much of a difference between the 112 .OGG and 96 .OGG, so I've been ripping in 96kbp/s.
It equals about 0.7MB per minute of music at that sampling rate.
1 Gig CF card= 24 1/3 hours of music...

You made me jealous, with that 1gb CF Card. 
I have found out that a roughly 8mb mp3 coded at 192kbps, becomes 2.73mb at 80kbps, .ogg.
