Hmmm.... In Adhoc mode you are not going to get an IP address, unless perhaps the machine you are trying to connect to in adhoc is a server, handing out DHCP leases...
You would want Infrastructure mode...as for the SSID....you could also try
"ANY" minus the " this usually works with most wireless setups...
Previous suggestion was right on the money, should work fine following those instructions too... I don't have the socket/symbol card, but I do have a lot of wifi hardware...APs, bridges, PCMCIA cards, USB, compact flash cards, etc...all working quite well together...everything from

All works well together...really love the linksys bridge.... it connects up to the Belkin AP/router... I have the linksys wireless bridge plugged into a hub, with three computers also plugged in....the bridge connects up to the belkin(wirelessly, which has Internet access....works quite well.....
