Socket CF WiFI and LinkSys HELP!

I just purchased a Socket Low Power WLAN CF card and am having a hell of a time getting it working with my IPaq 3850. My setup is as follows:

1. Socket WiFi CF Adapter (Driver version 3.50, Firware version F3.10-01 Hardware version 3.0)

2. LinkSys BEFW11S4 (Version 1, Firmware version 1.44z (I've tried 1.44.2z as well).

3. iPAQ 3850 (Firmware version 1.20)

I for the life of me can't get the two to talk together. I have a Dell laptop that uses the Linksys without fail but the iPAQ won't work. I've gone as far as to completely blow away the iPAQ so there is nothing on it at all but the WiFI software, and still nothing.

If I set the LinkSys to Ad-HOC and channel 6 (default for linksys), the LED at the top of the Socket card blinks faster (in the manual, it says this is a good think, meaning sync), but that's all. No DHCP, nor do I see the MAC address appear in the linksys. I've also tried static IP and that did not work either.

Am I missing something here? I've done WiFi before and never had a problem. Anyone with this combination have any suggestions? From what I've been reading in posts, people don't seem to be having any difficulties with this combo. Very frustrating!

Make sure that in the admin page of the BEFW11S4 you have SSID Broadcast enabled. Some cards will not be able to connect to a wireless router if the SSID is disabled. After connecting with your socket you can disable SSID again.

I had the same problem with a linksys WCF12 card(in my iPAQ) and a BEFW11S4 v2 router.

Ok since only thing installed is network card software..do a hard reset and reinstall again. ( this is only to definitely remove all settings from your ppc.)

Now that that is done sync your pocket pc with your desktop and reinstall network drivers without network card inserted.

Now uncradle you PPC and insert the network card. It should popup a configuration window. Do not close this window. If no window opened then go Start>Settings>Connections>Network Adapters and click on the card you are using.

Depending on your router defaults youll need to manually assign your ppc card a IP adress. You will need to know what IP's are available. For instance on mine the default available are 192.168.0.3 - 192.168.0.50

My home PC is automatically set to 192.168.0.2 and Router is 192.168.0.1

Once you have this info assign an available IP to your network card. I use 192.168.0.3 for mine. Now click on subnet mask and the values should automatically appear if not set them to 255.255.255.0. Set Default gateway to the IP Adress of your router. Now click on the next tab on the bottom of the page for your DNS settings.
You can find these by right Clicking MyNetwork Places on your home PC then Clicking on your Lan connection then the support tab and details.

Put in the Dns adresses listed. For me it is 68.51.128.5 and ALT is 68.51.128.6

Leave WINS blank. Once that is done click OK on your PPC. Now open ActiveSync on your PPC. Make sure you have already Synced through your cradle at least once before going any further. Click on Options. Make sure the server name listed is the name of the PC you will be synchronizing with. If it is then click on the server tab and uncheck everything.

Now you just need to click ok and then try to synchronize.

Hopefully it worked but it is sort of Plug and Pray. I am writing this exactly as I just did on my PPC and everything is working fine for me. YMMV

There's a good forum for the Socket card here. I know there have been issues with some Linksys APs in the past.

why are you using Adhoc mode? You should be using Infrastructure mode on the Symbol CF card. The Linksys AP defaults to ESSID of 'linksys'. Set the ESSID to same on the CF card driver. If AP is on channel 6, make sure the CF card is at same channel.

Make sure the WEP setting is same on both AP and CF card. Try WEP off first. Make sure the PPC device picks up the DHCP settings and applications like PIE work. Once working, then turn on WEP.

Turn on WEP security, same levels bon both AF and CF, and type in the passcode string that you set up on the AP onto the CF driver tab.

I have a Linksys dual band AP, ipaq 3875, Symbol CF WLAN card. Works fine.

Hmmm.... In Adhoc mode you are not going to get an IP address, unless perhaps the machine you are trying to connect to in adhoc is a server, handing out DHCP leases...


You would want Infrastructure mode...as for the SSID....you could also try

"ANY" minus the " this usually works with most wireless setups...

Previous suggestion was right on the money, should work fine following those instructions too... I don't have the socket/symbol card, but I do have a lot of wifi hardware...APs, bridges, PCMCIA cards, USB, compact flash cards, etc...all working quite well together...everything from

All works well together...really love the linksys bridge.... it connects up to the Belkin AP/router... I have the linksys wireless bridge plugged into a hub, with three computers also plugged in....the bridge connects up to the belkin(wirelessly, which has Internet access....works quite well.....
