Default Getting online with cellular

I'm completely new to the PPC world - just bought an HP 4700 recently. I love the built-in wifi around my house, but I'd like to get the internet over cellular.

I have Sprint's Vision data service, which I can get to work with my LAPTOP via a cable that connects my A500 Samsung phone to the laptop USB port. The laptop just sees it as a modem.

How are you guys getting online with PPC over cell? I can't seem to locate any cables to either go directly from the A500 to the 4700, nor can I find anything that connects the 4700 to a (female) USB, for my existing A500-to-USB cable. Is Bluetooth pretty much a requirement here?

Thanks!!

Personally I use BT, but folks have been doing it with a cable connection way before BT was common. You won't be able to do this with a USB scheme, because the PPC is not a USB host. The cable connections generally take advantage of the serial capability normally found on PPC sync connectors. The 4700 may just be a little new for a cable to have been produced, but the most probable place to find one is The Supply Net, http://thesupplynet.com/.

Another option is IR, but both the IR and cable solutions require the two devices to be capable.

Default How To BT

Sven,
I've got a 2215 and a T637 on Cingular. Have any suggestions on how to get the 2215 on the net using BT and the T637?

I've read that it requires a specific data plan from Cingular but haven't found any conclusive answers...

Thanks

iPAQ 4155 -> BT -> SE T610 -> dial *99***#1 uses GPRS (the CID=1 entry in my phone)

I do have a data segment on my connection.

Oh oh! Bad combo...Samsung & non host capable PPC.
Samsung doesn't support serial on most cellphones....USB only.
It may be over come by a cable with a circuit in between to act as a "host". Be sure to research this before buying.

In order for you to get GPRS access, you'll need a medianet plan. If you're planning on using a lot of data, you should go with the MediaWorks which offers unlimited data. You will then be able to tether your 2215 to your 637 and be off and surfing.
