Bluetooth GPRS and Proxy Use.

I've been using my Tmobile Nokia NGAGE for GPRS internet access for my Ipaq 2215. The system has worked almost flawlessly until recently Tmobile decided to stop allowing access to all ports except 80, 110, 25, and a few others needed for standard services like smtp, pop, and Http internet access (probably also ports for wap if they are different than http). Anyway, I figured out that I can run a socks proxy on my home computer and put it on port 110. This allows me access to all my previous services through the proxy. Unfortunately, Most ppc apps are NOT proxy ready. I found in the Connection manager a setting that allows you to set proxy access, so I set my socks proxy to my home computers ip and the port to 110, and http proxy to my home computer and port 80 (even though I don't need it). I set up my proxy to take socks access from port 110 and http from port 80. I was dissapointed to find that even after setting these settings, once I connected to the internet using the "bluetooth dialup modem", applications continued to try to directly connect to the internet instead of being routed through the proxy. I know the proxy Idea works, as I use netfront 3.1 for web browsing. I set the proxy settings there and they show the connection on my pc, however, as I don't really need the http redirection this isn't helping. Is there something I missed about proxy use? I contacted HP but they sent me a stupid email about software support being only for 90 days. Essentially Im looking for any solution. I need to access IRC, AIM (Agile messenger seems to work on port 80 now.), Telnet, SSH, and ftp. I use my PPC for mobile application development. If anyone has any info that could help, I would be very greatful, thanks all!

One more thing. When my ppc turns off, my bluetooth link is terminated between my phone and ppc. Is there any settings, or any software that I can use to automatically restablish the link between my phone and ppc whenever its turned back on, essentially, I always want the ppc to be connected to my phone when they are both on. If that were a realistic option, I wouldn't be wasting time trying to do this in the first place. Secondly, I've been using this service for over 2 years for 4.99. I had hoped from reading other replies in this forum that some truely intelligent ppc users would be able to help me with the simple configuration issues, as any real ppc user knows, the connection manager is a confusing piece of crap. Finally, I would appreciate it if future posters don't bother wasting time posting crap that isn't going to help. I came here looking for expert help, not smartass quips. Thanks to everyone else who is taking me seriously.

Actually it wasn't a smartass quip. I was quite serious, T-Mobile has recently cranked up their firewall rules to stop people from unrestricted web surfing using wap.voicestream.net, I know I was one of them.

I made that suggestion because it seemed to be a much simplier solution to your problem than trying to get the proxy going. It's because of how much of a royal pain it is to use connection manager that I suggested just biting the bullet here.

To me it would seem that paying the extra $15 a month would be much less of a hassle than what you're trying to do, and that's why I suggested it.

I realize that connection manager can be frustrating to deal with. I do, however, feel your response was uncalled for. There was no indication that mbabischkin was not taking you seriously...

Perhaps the extent of my frustration is showing. I've spent over 2 weeks trying to configure this properly and doing research all over the net. I already pay over 65$ a month, its not worth an additional 15 to get unlimited internet data. I use the access every day, however the amount of data transferred is pretty minimal, probably under 10 megs a month. Its frustrating because, I had to switch from sprint pcs, who offered the exact same options I have now, but for 40. Plus their visions network is much faster than tmobiles gprs (I had to switch because sprint has no bluetooth phones available, and pda data device is impractical because I use the phone more than the internet). I really am displeased by the new move by tmobile, and I refuse to pay them even more money for services I had from a superior company for free. Finally, the point of all of this work is that it IS possible, its IS a good idea, and Im VERY close to getting it working. I just need to fig0ure out how to force all traffic through my own proxy server on port 110. Im sorry mbabischkin for my earlier comments, I really hadn't made my own intentions clear, and I realized that after I posted my response...Thanks for taking the time to give me your input regardless.
