3G -Settings for connecting phone to pda

Hi ..I am currently using my mobile phone as a modem with my PDA and to activate GPRS I have input the extra dial string modem commmands and the usual *99# which work fine.

However if I upgrade my phone to 3G, are there similar settings required to connect to the PDA making use of 3G?

The settings should be broadly similar - in my case it was just a very minor change in the extra dial string (essentially a change in the APN).
