xmradio, browsers and putting some heads together

First, I know I've posted a lot lately but I was just about settling in with my setup when I got this brainstorm: try using my xmradio account online.

As some of you may know XM just started allowing all users to have access to their streaming music online. If I could get my xmradio to work on my ppc it would be freakin AWESOME!

both aximsite.com and this foum has brought up the issue of people NOT being able to get the stream to work. Various browser have been tried but beyond that it seemed as though people gave up.

I haven't tried anything yet mainly because everything I would try has aparently already been tried.

I just wanted to press this issue and keep it going until we figure it out. I know there are a lot of good "heads" around so I was hoping we could put them together and figure out a solution?

Hrm... interesting. I use XM's online radio feature (and it does truly rock) but also have a MyFi, so I haven't tried playing with my PPC yet to try this. Guess I'll go give it a spin in a few min. and report back here if I have any success.

I have a Toshiba e805 and just tried. I got so far as getting Windows Media player to start loading but it stopped and died. It did not lock up the 805 so I didn't have to do a reset to continue. How nice it would be if it did work.

Keep in mind that Sprint and Verizon specifically say that music and video streaming is not allowed. I'd be surprised if the others didn't also have that in their TOS.

I am a strong advocate of "Personal Media Syndication".

If you can record the XM shows of your choice as an MP3 file (or any file playable on your PPC) then you can expose those MP3 files as an RSS feed and pick up those feeds over WiFi or GPRS or EDGE or other cell data using FeederReader. There are various hurdles along the way (like how to set up a web server that can access those mp3 files and then get through any firewall between that machine and the open internet).

I'd LOVE to get a "Howto" guide on how to do this. I can help on the client side, and maybe even write a program to generate RSS feeds from a directory of MP3 files in .NET Framework.

Anyone up for the challenge?

At this time, XM Online service are not designed to be used on a PDA. If your
Pocket PC receives high speed internet service and has Windows Media Player 9
Series, you should be able to enjoy XM Online. The display might be too small
