Two WiFi Utilities Previewed

In the wakes of increasing WiFi popularity we see more and more WiFi utilities come to life. PDAJunkie has previewed two of these WiFi utilities for Pocket PC.

"PocketWarrior is an alpha test Open Sourced 802.11b security program for the PocketPC that checks for access points, and gives basic information like SSID and MAC address.
Cirond's WiNc is a program in beta that is only part of a larger test suite for LAN administrators. This PocketPC program will not only give the basic information, but will also check for web accessability and email accessability. It also will ping, trace route, and do DHCP renew/releases."

I have been using Pocketwarrior with my Netgear MA401 and Dell Axim X5. The Netgear driver didn't work, but the Pocketwarrior webpages had directions for installing a generic driver that worked quite nicely. I have used WiNc when networks have given me problems, but Pocketwarrior is my main tool of choice.

Any of these work on the HP iPaq H5450 Pocket PC??

It will be fun walking around trying to find a WiFi access point.

Agreed. These cards are great, but no joy with MiniStumbler or PocketWarrior.

Depends a bit on what you are into. You can find pretty much any kind of joy on the internet except WiFi survey software for a Symbol or Socket card :?

Wait, or buy a card that the current stuff works with. (The Dell limits you to the CF ones. I got an Orinoco so I could use Netstumbler on my Jornada with the PCCard sleeve )

Could you point us all in the right direction, I would like this driver you speak of. :lol:

That is the link posted on their webpage.
When you install the driver it will give you an error saying the card was not detected, and will pop up a window asking you for a driver.
Just type in "prismioc.dll" and it should work! I would encourage anyone with any coding skills to download the source and take a peek. Hugo (the author) just released a cleaned up version of the source which makes it really easy to follow.
