Default MailShadowG Makes Gmail Into an Exchange Server

http://www.cemaphore.com/mailshadow_g.php

"MailShadowG, the newest offering from Cemaphore Systems, will revolutionize the way you think about email continuity and content management. Using a SaaS-based (Software as a Service) model, MailShadowG allows you to synchronize your Outlook client with web-based email service providers like Google’s Gmail. This effectively turns Outlook into a universal front end client for different email systems, reducing infrastructure costs dramatically and making email backup portable and affordable. MailShadowG severs your dependency on the costliest elements of a traditional Exchange backup system."

I've always admired Gmail's uptime, stability, and ever-expanding storage - but it's never really fit into my Outlook-centric style of work. MailShadowG, which is currently in beta and not quite ready for public consumption, looks like it might bridge that gap in a really effective way.

Is there a document or web page somewhere that really explains all of the various options for managing email, contact info, etc?? I am especially interested in this from the perspective of an individual, not from a corporate or "enterprise" (I hate that word/concept) perspective.

Currently, I use Outlook as my main database, which I sync with my devices using ActiveSync.

My main emailing is done through gmail.

But I notice a lot of people seem to prefer Exchange or hosted Exchange, or other approaches.

I would like to learn more about the various approaches and the problems that they solve.

this is interesting. for a long time now, exchange (mail2web.com) has been my bread and butter. the ability to sync my PIM needs over multiple devices and be able to manage this on a website is golden. but i must say....after switching over my secondary email from aol to gmail....i've been loving gmail more and more every day. lately i've been feeling to make the switch to gmail as primary all togeather. but there is no exchange like sync. but this here would prove to be reeeally nice.

my main question about this is more toward google. at the rate they're moving....will they release some exchange like service themselves? hmmmmm. i wouldn't put it pass them. i wish they would. but in any event, this software looks to be very promising.
