For those of you still using GroupWise in your organization, Novell now supports mobile device sync via it s Mobile Server product. It seems they have partnered with Intellisync to provide this feature. According to the paper, it syncs email, appointments, contacts and tasks. How many are still using GroupWise in your organization?

We are using Groupwise but are on the 6.5 client right now. No plans to move forward that I have heard of.

EDIT: 6 hrs later, and I'm the only reply. Am I a lone GW user in a sea of Exchange/Outlook folks (likely)

I think our company holds on to GW due to (1) we use Novell networks (2) cost is lower based on previous $$'s spent (3) supposedly less at risk for virus attacks. Our current Dir of IT has mumured that he'd like to switch but can't "right now".

I have Outlook installed on my desktop as well as the GW client. Outlook feeds off the GW server which allows me to synch with my PPC (with about a dozen caveats anyway). I'd love to use Outlook as my client instead of GW but there is too much that doesn't quite work and its painfully slow.

I thought I would start to like GW...maybe even appreciate it but I'll be honest. After 4.5 yrs I still think its pretty aweful for anything but email and even thats not great. I really dislike (hate is such a strong word) the way Calendar works and task management is a myth. Contacts? Brutal.

My question is: is this new soluton integrating into pocket pc built-in apps or is it using the groupwise web based system? The issue for me has been that it is all web based. So, that it doesn't sit natively on my pocket pc.

Anyone know if this syncs with the device or what?

We use groupwise at the hospital i work in. I am located in Madera California. We are in the process og migrating to v.7 with Mobile synch support. I am on the list to be plugged in with my T-mobile MDA.

This installs a piece of software on your PPC, you can sync when you place it in the cradle but if you have a PPC phone then it pushes everything through to you.

Really? That is pretty lame. WHy not just plug into the ActiveSync component on your device? If someone in the field has a hard reset, or just buys a new device, you'd have to wait until you could install software to sync. With Exchange 2003, you just go into AS on the device and key in some user info and you are ready to go.

I also have to use GroupWise 6.5 at work, we'll probably move to 7 in a few months. We have NotifyLink software installed which push syncs to any device (mainly blackberrys), but I setup the software for my WM5 device, and it's *not bad*.

I only sync email, but also have Intellisync on my desktop to do a one way sync for calendar (since I don't want my personal appointments shown on the calendar at work).

I wonder if the new service will let me do everything wirelessly, email and one way calendar, that would be great. No more docking to get calendar synced.
