Everything else synchs up fine. Am I doing something wrong?

What is the error you are getting when you try to sync with your device with activesync software.

My pocket pc says nothing, but the active sync screen on my desktop computer says "sync status is on the device". Any clues?

I'm guessing you have ActiveSync setup to sync with an Exchange Server. Check your Sync options on the desktop and uncheck the "Enable synchronization with a server" option, unless you are syncing directly with an Exchange Server. If you are syncing directly with an Exchange Server, ActiveSync will say this.

(You may also have to change settings on the device itself.)
