Bitstream Releases ThunderHawk 1.1

does this thing really work? I use the ie on my 2215 alot, i really dont mind spending the money if it makes a diffrence. Hit me with some feedback guys.

Simply the only way to browse wirelessly. I browse anywhere with my mobile and through Wifi at school and Bluetooth at home, and itīs the only browser on a mobile device that gives you a "desktop feeling". But Thunderhawk has it's flaws and they are a lot. I recomend that you download the trial and see if it's anything for you.

Unlike IE, TH shrinks down the content and displays it properly for most pages. It works in landscape mode so it's more like a desktop.
I don't like the interface much, and dislike anything that overrides my choice of entering text. However, it works with a lot of pages that don' work in IE, and was my only choice for browsing some of my school's intranet, which is Javascript-heavy.
Bottom line, if you want IE in your pocket and don't mind paying $5 a month, this isn't bad. But if you're satisfied with Pocket IE, keep it for free, and get Nydiot Virtual Display if you want the landscape mode.

I used to use Thunderhawk, but PIEPlus does such a good job for me that I did net renew my Thunderhawk subscription.

Using T-Mobile Cell Phones and "Free Wap"
Thunderhawk may not be compatible with usage over T-Mobile's
"Free Wap" (with limited port availability and no access to https://).
I submitted a query to their support site, but I would say the above is
not compatible with each other:
1. EI works great while browsing the web via Dell X5 via Bluetooth to
a Nokia 3650 / GRPS servide/Free Wap.
2. Thunderhawk gives a message: "There is a problem connecting
Please try again later"
3. EI still works great after Thunderhawk session is closed in #2 above.
"Free Wap" and limited ports may not be compatible with Thunderhawk.
Anyone know for sure?? (The restriction is not in Thunderhawk's FAQ or
Tech requirements)

When you say wap? what do you mean. t-mobile offers the wap for cell phones and the internet for what ever else. Are you refuring to both? because i use my t-mobile connection with my ipaq atlease 2 hours a day, so it doesn't make sence buying something that wont work for me. |

davea's referring to T-Mobile's "free" GPRS plan, which gives you limited Internet access -- primarily web and mail traffic. This is contrasted against the $19.99 unlimited plan, which opens up all ports and even can allow you to establish VPN connections.
I'm 99% sure Thunderhawk won't work with the first one. davea, Thunderhawk's data stream is not HTTP; it's a compressed, modified data stream specially designed for their client. If you have the $20 plan, though, I can confirm that it works fine with that.

Similarly, I used to use TH very heavily, but with my e805 in 640x480 landscape PIE is pretty darn close, so I might not renew again, either. That said, TH was a great tool for me as long as I needed it on my 240x320 devices.
