Default What are these pocket PC's?

Hi All,

I'll admit it - I am a Palm OS user (at the moment). I am using a Tungsten T. However, in the past I have used several ppc/hpc devices.

Anyway, I am still looking for that "perfect" pda with expension capaiblities, connectivitiy (ie: bluetooth), and a slim form factor (ie: hp1910).

I stumbled upon these images... who makes them and are these going to be coming out soon?

I really would like to convert, but I am unhappy about the current size of the PPC's.

PLEASE - No Palm/PPC bashing in this thread... I mearly want to figure out what these pda's are!

Thanks!

While I admit that I am at a loss for what these Pocket PCs are, I can say that the top one doesn't look all that remarkable (looks big & "clunky") but the bottom one looks sleek while incorporating both SD and CF expansion. The closest thing that I can think of to parallel the bottom one is a Toshiba e740, which has both CF and SD (w/SDIO) and has built-in WiFi, replaceable batteries, etc. all in a package that is approx. 0.6" thick!

i agree with pocketpcdude.

the top one is one i wouldn't want even if i could buy it. hopefully it stayed in whatever emerging market cranked it out.

the second one does, however, stink of toshiba. but i mean stink in a good way... it is making my technology pants go crazy.

The top one is the "1st-PDA" by FIC. I was just looking at this one yesterday as a matter of fact. You can find more info about it here: http://www.fic.com.tw/product/pda/.

As for the bottom one, it's the MiTAC Mio. You can find more about it here: http://www.mitac.com/micweb/products/main.htm.

But as it seems, you yourself should have already known this, seeing as how you linked to the images from the manufacturer's website yourself .

Mitac is one of those companies that can really churn out new models on an ongoing basis. The problem is, many devices from that kind of company are only sold in limited geographies, most notably in APAC countries. I don't know anything about those devices you specifically cite, but they may never be available in your area.

If you're really interested in switching to a Pocket PC, why don't you let us know what features/functionalities are most important to you and how you'd use the device?

I don't know what everyone thinks is wrong with that top PDA there. I just looked at the specs--it has CF, SD/IO AND a USB port, it's got wifi and bluetooth built in, comes with a protective flip cover like the Ipaqs come with, and is roughly the same size as the toshiba. In short, it's everything I've ever wanted in a PDA and then some!

Course you can't buy it and there's not even a price listed anywhere, but on the surface it sure looks like a great little machine. Suppose there's not a chance it could ever be $300 or less
