Default VGA question

Dumb questions -I am about to dive into getting a Dell x50v (real soon). Will non VGA apps work on a VGA screen? will they look weird?

Any advice is appreciated!

Thanks!

yes.

no.

Some applications are not built for WM2003 Second Edition (which is what the VGA devices are running) and therefore do not handle landscape mode very well. But if you stay in Portrait orientation when running these programs, they should look the same as if they were running on a QVGA screen.

I'm sure others will respond with their experiences as well...

One other thing,

Work has an older version of Active sync. I am not sure which version, but I know the axim x30 works with it just fine.

Should I expect any compatability issues with the axim x50v? Does it need any different active sync?

There is No Way I will ever get work to change active sync versions. I am lucky they let us sync at all!

That is correct there is no work activesync software so I think it should work with Dell Axim 50v.

I'm guessing you have some version of the ActiveSync 3.x series. Theoretically, it'll work fine with your X50v. Each newer version only fixes a few bugs here and there.

However, if you ever upgrade your X50v to the Windows Mobile 5.0 platform (the upgrade CD is due to ship in a couple of months), you will need to upgrade your version of ActiveSync to v4.0 since it is a prerequisite for the synchronisation functionality of Windows Mobile 5.0.
